We invite newly licensed LVNs to apply for this opportunity to receive didactic and clinical training in ambulatory nursing. This program will allow new graduates to obtain experience through a residency program and then transition into independent clinicians.

Nurse Residency Overview:

  • Nurses accepted into our program will be trained at our KSC clinic locations throughout Houston and surrounding areas in various Primary and Specialty care areas.
  • Nurse Residents will be oriented with KSC-trained preceptors to prepare for their transition to independent practice.
  • We provide a comprehensive, evidence-based clinical orientation and a six-month transition to practice.
  • Monthly LVN resident conferences follow a core curriculum for professional development.
  • If accepted into our residency program, a one-year commitment to Kelsey-Seybold Clinic and the department hired will be encouraged.

Requirements include:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school with less than six months of LVN experience.
  • Cumulative GPA 3.0 or better.
  • We will prioritize candidates that have graduated in the last 18 months.
  • The Texas Board of Nursing issues the LVN license; NCLEX is taken and passed before the nurse residency start date.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) and Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Two (2) Letters of recommendation (at least one should be from nursing program faculty).
  • Above-average verbal communication.

Preferences include:

  • Strong work ethic.
  • Outstanding references from faculty or employers.
  • Ability to work in a team to achieve group outcomes.
  • Prior experience in an ambulatory care setting.
  • Volunteer experience.
  • Effective communication skills.

Match Day Process:

  • Candidates selected for match day interviews will be notified by email.
  • All required documents for application, including reference letters, must be submitted before match day.
  • We will schedule match day interviews with residents and KSC nurse leadership over two (2) dates.
  • Behavior-based interviews may take up to thirty (30) minutes.
