Responsibilities

The Ophthalmic Assistant is responsible for providing direct patient care to patients seen in the Optometry or Ophthalmology departments.    He or she will ensure the safety and comfort of patient and families according to legal, organizational and professional standards. 

The Certified Ophthalmic Assistant is responsible for providing direct patient care to patients seen in the Optometry or Ophthalmology departments.    He or she will ensure the safety and comfort of patient and families according to legal, organizational and professional standards.

 

Job Title: Ophthalmic Assistant (OA/COA) – Ophthalmology

Location: Cypress 2, Memorial Villages (Will travel to Memorial Villages up to 6 times a month)

Department: Ophthalmology

Job Type: Full Time 

Salary Range: $45,657 – $56,413 (Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc.)

 

Qualifications

Education

Required: High School diploma or GED from an accredited program

Preferred: N/A

Experience

Required: 

OA

At least 1-year previous Medical Assistant or Ophthalmic Assistant experience if not a graduate of an approved Medical/ Ophthalmic Assistant program.  

Or

6 months experience if a graduate of an accredited Medical/Ophthalmic Assistant program.

COA

At least 1 year of experience under an Ophthalmologist with ophthalmic certification or Graduate of an accredited vision technology school.  

Preferred: 

OA

1 year in ophthalmic setting

COA

2 years of previous work experience under an ophthalmologist.

License(s)

Required: 

COA

Certified as an Ophthalmic Assistant.

Preferred: N/A

Special Skills

Required: 

OA

Able to use equipment and related supplies for selected patient population.  CRT experience.

Able to use NCT, Autorefractor, computer related equipment, Lensometer and able to perform K-readings. 

 COA

Able to use NCT, auto refractor, perform gross visual fields and gross motility exam, slit lamp operation, applanation tonometry,  operate IOL master, 

evaluate pupils, use of OCT/HRT, pachymetry, corneal topography and Humphrey Visual Field Knowledge and  dosage of ophthalmic drops.

Able to Scribe, use portable tonopen,, Goldman VF, Fundus photography, Fluroscein  Angiography, Immersion Intraocular lens

Preferred: N/A

Other 

Required: Current BCLS

Preferred: Windows based computer skills
